Immigration In the USA

How many people are entering the U.S.?
The number of immigrants coming to the U.S. legally has increased steadily since the end of World War II. In 1946, 108,721 people were legally admitted into the country, a number that climbed to 1.2 million in 2016, the most recent year for which Department of Homeland Security has released statistics.
Mexico accounted for the most legal immigrants in recent years, with 467,205 people born in the country arriving from 2014 through 2016- a period that saw 3.3 million people overall legally come to the U.S., according to DHS. China and India provided the next most, accounting together for about a third of the 1.3 million people who legally came from Asia during that time. Cuba, with 167,591 arrivals was the country of birth for the fourth-highest number of legal immigrants.
Who is coming illegally?
An estimated 11 to 12 million of the foreign-born population is believed to be in the U.S. illegally, a figure that has remained stable since the mid-2000s.
Mexicans are also believed to make up the largest single group of those living illegally in the country – an estimated 5.6 million in 2016, according to an estimate by the Pew Research Center. The number of immigrants from other countries who are in the U.S. illegally increased since 2009 from 5 million to 5.4 million in 2015, according to Pew. The estimates say those people came primarily from countries in Asia and Central America.
There is a real need for a Comprehensive Immigration Reform in order to provide a pathway for legal immigration into the United States. Since we are a nation of immigrants, the USA has deep roots attached to immigrants that have made very significant contributions to the American Dream.
