I’d walk a mile for a Camel

(1950 Ad for Camel Cigarettes)

A camel has been associated with caravans dating back to 200 A.D. A caravan was described as a group of people and pack animals, primarily camels on a trade exposition through a desert.

The word caravan comes from the ancient Persian “kārwān” meaning “a group of desert travelers”.  The use of caravans was used by merchants traveling the Silk Road through the desert and hostile territory as a means of protection and safety.

Today the fear mongers of Fox News have once again created a false, unsubstantiated claim that there is a caravan of Mexicans attempting to enter the US illegally. The fake news that the Trump Administration is screaming about are a result of his own administration and its ally news network who show a complete disregard of the facts and the reality of an illegal caravan ready to invade the United States on our unprotected border with Mexico.  There is no caravan, there are no camels, there is no desert.

According to CNN Trump appears to be referring to migrants as an exodus of refuge seekers. A spokesman for the group People without Borders “Pueblo sin Fronteras” said that assemblage of people, primarily women and children started in the state of Chiapas Mexico on the border with Guatemala. This movement made up of people who were forced to flee their countries of origin due to persecution, rape, murders, and gang violence.

The alleged caravan consists mainly of women and children from El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala (not Mexico). They are seeking asylum in Mexico or the United States. Despite the Fox News and Trump “fear factor” and panic attack, of the approximately 1,200 people traveling almost 2,000 miles on foot without camels or pack animals, seeking safety, so far only (3) people have successfully been granted asylum in the U.S. In a country with a population of more than 325,000,000 people. It would seem absurd and foolish for the President and the United States to call up the National Guard to protect our borders. In addition, the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) as of April 1st, 2018 has confirmed that the illegal border crossing from Mexico have been the lowest since 1971 a significant drop by more than 80%.

Apparently, the President and his anti-immigration “stooges” to include Attorney General Sessions and non-elected advisors including Stephen Miller (the Darth Vader of Immigration Reform) are trying to create a fear-based reason to build a $25 Billion-dollar wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. A recent CNN Politics announcement stated   that  humanitarian effort by the 4 or 5 immigration rights groups  working together with the U.S. and Mexicans authorities are targeted to help asylum seekers in an effort to uphold human dignity and provide a safe haven for people seeking refuge said: “an inaccurate news report (Fox News) should not serve as an alarm, but rather a call for a humanitarian effort that is not at odds with the rule of law”.

The Director of PSF (Pueblo Sin Fronteras) Irineo Mujica said: The Caravan was intended to draw the Worlds’ attention to migrant’s rights in order to help them, to respond to President Trump’s tough talk on immigration and his discussion to end DACA. The President has displayed his ignorance of the DACA program by suggesting that the caravan was a big flow of individuals taking advantage of DACA by entering the U.S. illegally.

AIA response:

Mr. President- in order for someone to qualify for DACA they must have entered the United Sates before their 16th birthday; was present in the U.S. on June 15, 2007 and resided continuously in the U.S. ever since; have a high school or college diploma or were currently attending school and have no criminal record. Rather than twitting at 3:00a.m. in your pajamas, do your homework and understand the law and its consequence!

We don’t need a buffoon president making false statement in an attempt to intimidate the American people.

Abraham Lincoln stated:” You can fool some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. (1864).
